Despite living in the 21st century, many people who identify as queer live in closeted lives only because they are not accepted for their gender identity and/or sexual orientation. Sec 377 of the Indian Penal Code criminalises sexual acts ‘against the order of nature’ and is often associated with the LGBTQIA+ community making them highly vulnerable to discrimination, oppression, and jail term.
It is high time that the government and the people in positions of power realise and understand that whatever happens in one’s bedroom is a personal choice undertaken by mutually consenting adults and any interference whatsoever is a breach of their privacy.
